Went in knowing zero about reading water, left actually spotting where the fish would hold. The hands-on casting drills clicked for me way faster than any YouTube video ever did. If you’re near Sylacauga and want the basics without the fluff, this school earns its keep.
The day-and-a-half of hands-on casting drills finally got my loop to tighten up, and reading the water section alone was worth the drive to Sylacauga. I’d never have spotted the seams we practiced on without a guide pointing them out.
The casting drills were solid, but what really stuck with me was how the instructor broke down reading the water—I finally understand where the trout are hiding. Left Sylacauga feeling like I could actually hold my own on a river, not just flail around.
